As a designer I feel that if we can also teach the viewer, then the value of our message is with a higher purpose. When we trying to communicate with people expanding our reach to touch different learning styles we make communication more effective. A simple and often-used model categories people as visual learners (65 percent of population), auditory learners (30 percent) or physical/tactile learners (5 percent). Research shows that on average, students who learn from reading alone only retain about 10 percent of the content. Whereas they retain 26 percent of what they hear, 30 percent of what they see, 50 percent of what they see and hear, 70 percent of what they say themselves, and 90 percent of what they say while doing something. This is evident with popularity of online tutorials and video demos today. In addition the use of type strengthens the percentage of viewers who watched the complete video, making multimedia presentation a very powerful tool. Our tools are changing and the way we learn and present information is impacted. I believe we will be seeing more video on the web in the years to come. With You Tube stats May, 2010 at 2 billion views a day, and thousands of high school and junior high students receiving formal training in shooting and editing video at school this media will be central to connecting people with content.
